Character history- Despite his name meaning "excellent second son", Eiji is the youngest of five siblings. He lives with his parents, grandparents, two older brothers, two older sisters, his sister's dog, and his mother's parakeet, making a grand total of eleven members living in the household. At Seishun Academy, he is a third year student in the same class as Shusuke Fuji, one of his good friends and a fellow regular for the Seigaku team. Along with Shuichiro Oishi, Eiji is a part of Seigaku's "Golden Pair" and together, they are the best Doubles Team Seigaku has.

Eiji first met Oishi in their first year at Seigaku. He bumped into Oishi on his his first day of school after Shusuke had told him that Oishi was a nice person. Eiji quickly developed a strong amiration for Oishi and even defended him when he found out that some members of the team were spreading ill rumors about him. He eventually asked Oishi to become his tennis partner.

Eiji and the other regulars first see Ryoma's tennis skills when they observed the "match" between him and Arai. At first, he didn't think Ryoma would be able to win with the beat up racket Arai had given him to play with. However, when Ryoma managed to turn the game in his favor and win the match, Eiji was impressed by his skills and that he was able to do such a thing.

Like all of the regulars, Eiji easily won all his early matches in the intraschool ranking matches. He obvserved Ryoma's match against Kaoru Kaidoh from the sidelines with the others and was once again impressed by his skills when he managed to beat Kaidoh, who was a grade higher than Ryoma. Eiji wasn't able to view Ryoma's game against Sadaharu Inui a few days later because he and Takeshi Momoshiro had a match at the same time. In fact, he pulled Momo away from it because he had forgotten about it and jokingly told Momo he'd gladly take the victory if he wanted to forfeit. Due to this, Momo wasn't able to tell Horio, Katsuo, and Kachiro about Inui's style of play. They managed to finish their match before Ryoma's ended, but the results of it weren't stated. Eiji was once more surprised when he saw Kaidoh also outsmart Inui's data in the last game of the ranking matches.

In the first practice session the regulars had together as a team, Eiji showed off his abilities, such as his motion vision. When the wieghts on his ankles started to take their toll, Eiji's judgement was thrown off and he screwed up. As a result, he was the first victim of Inui's vegetable juice. Ryoma, Oishi, Momo, Taka, and Kaidoh soon joined him, but when it came to Fuji's turn, Eiji got pissed off that Fuji purposely screwed up just to drink the juice and when he said that it didn't taste that bad and was ultimately unaffected by it.

In the Tokyo District Preliminaries, Eiji and Oishi faced off against Suzuki & Iguchi of Gyokurin Middle School after Momoshiro and Ryoma's match. After they won, they both made smart remarks about Momo and Ryoma by saying they didn't want Gyokurin to think they were as bad as them. In the finals, they played against Fudomine's Kyousuke Uchimura and Tatsunori Mori and won fairly easily despite the rain. After Ryoma won his match against Ibu and therefore won the tournament for Seigaku, he joined the others at the Kawamura's sushi restaurant in celebration. He ended up getting in an argument with Momo over sushi.

After hearing Momo say he had the best reflexes at Seigaku when he and Akira Kamio passed him and Taka on the streets while they were chasing a purse snatcher, Eiji got annoyed. They soon run into the same purse snatcher that the previous two were chasing. Eiji passed Taka his racket and ended up chasing after Taka when he began to chase after the purse snatcher. Eventually they ended up at the same sports store as Ryoma, Shinji, and the other freshman. Eiji cheered Ryoma on in getting the grip tape from Shinji and even aided in coming up with the competition to win the grip tape. When Momo arrived, Eiji ran up to him and began yelling at him about his earlier comment about the reflexes, but Momo didn't recall saying such a thing.

During practice for the Metropolitain matches, losers of the taining matches had to drink Inui's special vegetable juice. When Tezuka accidentally drank all of it, Inui used his "Golden Power Remix Inui Juice" on the loser of the match between Ryoma and Eiji. Eiji was spared from it when Ryoma failed to win within five shots, the requirement to win, and had to drink it.

Character personality- Eiji is a very friendly, sweet-tempered, and outgoing kind of guy. Because he is the youngest member of of a large family, Eiji is usually referred to by his given name. He acts like a cat, shown by his acrobatics and how he likes adding "Nya" at the ends of his sentences. He is also very playful, proven by when he helps Tomoka and Sakuno cheer for Ryoma during his match against Reiji Shinjou using a special chant and when he impresses the neighborhood kids with his acrobatic skills. During matches, most of the characters' concentration are broken up by attention and pressure, but Eiji loves the attention and can actually focus much more when he's being cheered on.

While the others call Ryoma either "Echizen" or "Ryoma", Eiji prefers to call him "o chibi"("little guy"). He also enjoys hugging Ryoma the most and sometimes hangs off him while watching a match. Momoshiro eventually seems to have adopted the movement, and the both simultaneously jump on Ryoma.

Digimon personality- Tailmon is a lot like his tamer in not only acrobatics, but also in personality. He's friendly, sweet-tempered, outgoing, and enjoys adding "Nya" to the ends of his sentences too, but it's more understandable for him because he is actually a cat. However, while he can focus when being cheered on, he can't focus as well as his tamer can. He is playful too and loves returning tennis balls that Eiji hits, being able to do so without a racket by using his paws. He also adopts his tamer's habits of calling Ryoma "o chibi" and hanging off of him.

Character abilities- Eiji is very flexible and great at acrobatics. He is able to use this to his advantage in tennis, using his graceful flips and dives to reach balls normal people couldn't. Eiji's eyes are so sharp that he his able to catch the minute movement of a tennis ball in mortion. It allows him to react faster and keep up his acrobatic play and when an observer, he can see the ball and mention details about it.

He is also able to use his natural flexibility and speed to move from one location to another the moment his opponents eyes leave his first location. It gives the impression that there are two of him for a doppelganger kind of effect.
